Sensitive skin and over-the-counter (OTC) acne treatments

My main mission here is to address the problems faced by the many, many people who have sensitive skin as well as acne.

Often, people think that because they have oily skin and spots, their skin is tough and can take plenty of harsh treatment. In fact the opposite it true. It may very well be that mistreatment of your sensitive skin is a major contributor to your spots and that with suitable, gentle treatment instead, it will improve greatly of its own accord.

Inflamed Skin and Acne

If you are searching the web for help with problem skin, the chances are that you have tried, and given up on, just about every over-the counter (OTC) treatment in the pharmacy. You have probably found that some or all of these have made your skin more inflamed and have made your spots worse.
 
It is understandable that many people, instead of just stopping using the product, think: "The worsening of my skin must be because the treatment is working; I just need to carry on with it." Often, people start using even more of the product that is making their skin worse!

Acne and Oily Skin

All this does is leave you with more inflamed skin and more spots. Worst of all, if you strip your skin of all its natural oils (which it needs, no matter how much of a drag oily skin may seem) it will immediately start producing more oil to compensate, giving you even more spots and shiny patches. If you have ever thought your skin was oilier (especially on rising in the morning) after using the latest acne 'cure' from the chemist, this is the reason why. Acne, Perfumes and Irritants

You need to give your poor skin a break from these harsh treatments, many of which contain perfumes and other irritants, as well as chemicals that dry and inflame the skin. You don’t need to 'blast' your skin, no matter how exasperating it can seem sometimes – treat it with kindness and it will reward you!		Atomizer
